Urban Hawker Closes July 17 After a Redevelopment Sale, Not a Failed Business

On July 17, the last plates go out at Urban Hawker, the Singaporean food hall at 135 West 50th Street in Midtown Manhattan. Founder KF Seetoh announced the closing in a June 30 Facebook post, and the detail that matters is why. According to Seetoh, the owners of the building sold the property for redevelopment, and the team was alerted to the potential sale roughly a year ago. The food, by every available account, was not the problem.
